Johnson Ross Tackle Focus – May 2015

As announced in March, we’ve teamed up with the lads at Johnson Ross Tackle, one of the UK’s premier carp angling tackle shops to bring you two new, regular features; Tackle Focus & The Tackle Surgery.

So without any further ado, we’re kicking of things with the very first Tackle Focus. Every 4-6 weeks, Johnson Ross will be compiling a review of the latest tackle and gear that’s proving to be a hit with customers based on sales, feedback and their inside knowledge, together with any advice they can offer on how to make the most of it when you’re bank side. All prices are accurate at the time of posting:

Number 5 – Korda Helisafe System – £4.99 for two

korda-helisafeWhy do you think it is doing well?

It’s the first clip of its kind that enables a Chod set up to be used in snaggy/weedy situations so that it drops the lead on the take preventing a fish from becoming snagged. It won’t drop the lead on the cast or retrieve, only on a positive take.

Tips/Advice on how best to use?

The ideal leads to use are dumpy types, i.e. square pears, this shape of lead helps to set the hook the best.

Feedback from the punters?

Perfect!

Number 4 – Urban Baits Nutcracker Range – £10.99 per kg | £37.50 per 5kg

Why do you think it is doing well?nutcracker

It’s a great bait, great leakage value for maximum attraction but with a high food value for maximum long term consistency. A beautiful nut based bait that has a lovely sweet taste profile.

Does it partner well with anything?

The Nutcracker range comes with all the relevant matching pop ups, wafters, hard hookbaits and glug to accompany the bottom baits.

Feedback from punters?

Last season it proved to be very effective; it has caught on every water it’s been used on.

Number 3 – Fortis Switch “Wraps” Glasses – £34.99

fortis-switchWhy do you think it is doing well?

They are the first pair of polarised glasses that can change with the conditions. The default setting is a brown lense that is suitable for average and low light levels, however when out in the bright midday sun they change to a dark grey lense.

Feedback from punters?

Nothing but positive, they eliminate the need for two pairs of shades.

Number 2 – RidgeMonkey Toaster – £16.99

Why do you think it is doing well?ridgemonkey-toastie

It’s a great bit of kit, who doesn’t want a toasted sandwich on the bank!

Tips/Advice on how best to use?

Simply stick the sandwich in and toast it over any gas/petrol stove for the perfect toastie.

Feedback from punters?

Excellent, best bit of kit this year.

Number 1 – Free Spirit CTX Rods – From £99.99

freespirit-ctxWhy do you think it is doing well?

These rods are phenomenal for their price, the performance, looks and quality is outstanding, the 12’ 3.25lb must rate as one of the best all round rods available in the sub £150 class.

Tips/Advice on how best to use?

The 12’ 2.5lb makes a great small water rod where playability is key, if you need distance the 13’ 3.5lb SU will stick a baited rig over 150yds.

Feedback from punters?

Nothing but positive!
