It’s October and the nights are really starting to draw in fast, but many people do excellent at this time of year as they take every opportunity to squeeze in a few carp fishing sessions before the cold snap starts and many of us think about scaling things down in preparation for the winter ahead. It’s been a few weeks since the last Tackle Focus, so we checked in with the lads at Johnson Ross Tackle to get a heads up on what’s rocking the shelves at the moment and what goodies you should be thinking about stocking up on.
Number 5 – Essential Baits Thaumatin-B, 100mL – £14.55
Why do you think it is doing well?
This isn’t a new product, Mike Willmott launched it years ago but it stayed under the radar for years, those in the know using it were having loads of fish on it, a real edge.
Tips/Advice on how best to use?
It was originally designed to use in the preparation of particles, particularly Tiger nuts, however the best use for it is to boost plastic baits, it is a really potent natural sweetener and for some reason soaks into plastic hook baits and makes them irresistible!
Does it partner well with anything?
As I highlighted above it works brilliantly with plastics, simply soak them in it.
Feedback from the punters?
Spectacular!! Those using it have had a real edge for the last few years.
Number 4 – Korda Chod Safe – £18.99
Why do you think it is doing well?
As usual from Korda, a well though out solution to a problem, you can see the guys have thought about the best way to store and create Chods, the little pop out section allows you to create the perfect Chod and then store it.
Feedback from punters?
Hot off the press so too early to say but the guys in the shop love it.
Number 3 – John Baker Bio-Shellfish Liquid Seafood 1ltr – £11.99
Why do you think it is doing well?
Its John Baker!!, what John doesn’t know about bait isn’t worth knowing. He has put together what must be the best bait booster going, packed full of top quality attractors, John doesn’t do watered down or bulked out products, this is the real deal.
Tips/Advice on how best to use?
Simply pour over your particles, pellets, spod mix or add to groundbait or slop mixes, the various attractors used in this will “hang” at different levels of the water and disperse at different rates giving an awesome column of fish pulling attraction.
Does it partner well with anything?
Pretty much any fish based baits but in particular his Bio Shellfish baits or John Llewellyns Big Carp FBS baits which are made with John Bakers Bio-Shellfish mix.
Feedback from punters?
Very positive, a few regulars have been battering a few waters using it, we aren’t saying that their results are simply down to this, they are good anglers but they are adamant this is contributing to their success.
Number 2 – Kryston Klinik Medi-Skin – £9.99
Why do you think it is doing well?
We believe it to be the best Carp Care gel brought to the Carp market, great viscosity so that when you apply it you know it has stayed on once returned to the water.
Tips/Advice on how best to use?
Gently dab the area to be treated dry and then apply with your finger.
Feedback from punters?
Feedback from the carp would be a big thumbs up 🙂
Number 1 – Delkim Slim Lite Indicators – £34.99
Why do you think it is doing well?
These have have a unique arm system that when coupled with the double fixed/running line clip mean they can be used as a fixed “Stow” type indicator, a running “traditional” type hanger or a fixed arm “swinger” type indicator, a truly versatile bit if kit.
Tips/Advice on how best to use?
Great to use as a slack line indicator when fished in the fixed clip, when used like this in conjunction with the included mini arm they give great indication.
Does it partner well with anything?
Works with any of the Delkim Indicators, simply plug them into the Jack socket to illuminate them.
Feedback from punters?
Very good, no negative comments at all.
